I was invited over to the London Live TV studios yesterday for a live interview with Claudia-Liza Armah about fonts, type consumers and what the signage reveals about Dalston on a Type Safari. The TV channel is based in Northcliffe House, a building in West London with a huge, bright atrium and a glass elevator vanishing up towards the glass ceiling.

Font Elections poll results
These are the poll results for the online Font Elections survey. Voting is based on the typefaces used in the logos of the five most prominent political parties in the upcoming UK General Elections. The most interesting thing about the responses are the descriptions, participants were not made aware of which font matched each party until the end.
“Sarah Hyndman’s talk was a game changer”
Sarah Hyndman’s talk was a game-changer. In a tech-focused city, such as SF, designers are often asked to produce analytics for aesthetics they create. Clients will say, “You chose to use this typeface but what’s the data to back up the decision? Does type matter?” Sarah believes, and is proving quantitatively, that typeface choices do indeed matter and are largely influential in consumer behavior. She explores a lot of synesthesic topics in her research and workshops — presenting visual content to evoke an auditory or gustatory response. She builds on the work of cognitive neuroscientists and brings their questions and insights into a real-world lab of designer attendees.
