“There is going to be a celebration at the London Design Festival this year to honour typefaces. Sarah Hyndman, a graphic designer who is involved in the festival, evaluates the promotion of London as the design capital of the world.” Listen to the interview…
“When thinking about creative London, one of the things that springs to mind is all the body art to be seen, in so many different styles and created by very (and occasionally not so) talented artists. This piece references tattoo influenced lettering and is drawn and painted by hand.”

ITC Zapf Dingbats is one of the more common dingbat typefaces. It was designed by the typographer Hermann Zapf in 1978 and licensed by International Typeface Corporation.
London Design Festival at the V&A
We’re off to the V&A to install the words today, ready for the opening of the Festival and workshops during the Graphics Weekend.
‘#OMG’ by NB Studio for #LDF13
“When Type Tasting invited us to choose a word to answer ‘London=’ everyone in the studio had an opinion. After debating Type Tasting’s list of words, and what London meant to us, we eventually agreed on the very unlikely ‘#OMG’.
“To us ‘#OMG’ was one of the least descriptive words and not particularly inspiring … until we started to think about what it actually stood for. We realised it could be a celebration of London’s rich multiculturalism and a nod to the importance of social media.”
‘Sweet’ by Julie Mauro
“I was with my dad when I baked my first chocolate cake. I was about 7 years old. I could do everything but cut the butter and whisk the white with the mixer as it was deemed too dangerous. I remember that I was having fun. I think this is how it started.”

“Just for fun! Inspired by our breakfast at a greasy cafe this morning we made this.”

Inspired by growing seeds in egg shells with her nieces Elle and Dexy.

Type Safaris have proved popular and reinforce the ‘typography is all around us’ message. You are taken on a tour of an area of London, for example Dalston, and show you how the history of the area is revealed through the signage, explaining the origins of the different typefaces and discussing why they are (or aren’t) appropriate for each sign.

We had a fun aftenoon in the Dalston Eastern Curve Garden workshop surrounded by lush plants and quiet tranquility in the heart of bustling Dalston. Thank you to everybody who came along and took part so enthusiastically and creatively and also to Kitty the Hackney Wow! reporter for her story yesterday.
