The test pilots on the History of type correspondence course are producing some wonderfully creative examples of lettering while they research and learn about the history of typography and type classification.
The letters are the final stage in each assignment, they are created out of materials inspired by the research the participants have undertaken. This includes demonstrating the hand-crafted qualities of Blackletter type through felt and pins, referencing early books as luxury items by creating the letter out of gold, to filling a Victorian display letter with modern day motifs and portraying the pixelation of on-screen type with squares of coloured paper.
